After our first date at El Hamburger in Old San Juan, everything began to fall into place. For a few magical months, life felt full of promise until I was diagnosed with cancer and had to return to the mainland for treatment. Not wanting to burden her, I let her go with only a goodbye, never explaining the real reason why.

Almost a year later, during the San Sebastian festival in Old San Juan, she found me in the middle of the crowd.
